Your Spiritual Self - The BasicsFortunately, we humans are not just flesh and blood. The true essence of a person is in their spirit, the rest is just the housing. It is what makes us unique and it is what connects our mortal self to an eternal God. At Romance and Real Love.com we know for sure that relationships are made right or go wrong because of the way two spirits choose to interact. Our personalities, our core beliefs, our truest self, (what we reveal and what we try to hide) has so much more to do with whether our relationships are mutually satisfying or not than any other factor (economics, race, age, etc.). It is what is uniquely inside of us that generates our words and our actions. It is our words and actions that make or break our relationships. How many "fruits" of the spirit do you possess (see verse under the title)? The Bible is believed by Christians to be the word from God to all mankind. But whether you are a Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu or Buddhist, whether you are religious or atheist, it is undeniably the most popular, timeless, and often controversial book throughout history. We have found extraordinary wisdom in this book concerning relationships and will share new insights approximately every 21 days. So whether you are a born again believer or an avowed atheist, when you read these timeless nuggets, simply ask yourself, "Will my relationships be better or worse if I adopted these actions and attitudes in my life?" The Basics of Human Decency *This month we focus on the very basics of how human beings should interact with one another for everyone's mutual benefit. Consider these against your own beliefs and attitudes. Are you satisfied with your relationships? How pleasant are you to be around? What might you change about yourself? ..."You must not commit murder. You must not commit adultery, You must not steal, You must not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother, Love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 19:18-19 NLT For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another. Galatians 5: 14-15 NLT Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31-32 NLT There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18 NKJV Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses, faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 In the same way husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. Ephesians 5:28 NLT So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Ephesians 5:33 NLT In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God's gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered. 1 Peter 3: 7 NLT Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm all the days of her life. Proverbs 31:11-12 NLT Think it through: Loving your neighbors as yourself certainly includes those under our own roof. Does "neighbor" mean just the people in your neighborhood, or does God think bigger and wider than humans and mean everyone who happens to live in the community called planet Earth? Pray for a change of heart in the areas in which you do not love others as you love yourself. See the relationship prayer for this month. *Scripture quotations marked NLT are taken from the Holy Bible, New Living Translation, copyright 1996, 2004.
