Share Your Love - Give

Real love is about giving of yourself to benefit another. There are so many ways to express love for others and giving to help others in need is an especially selfless way to do that. Our team firmly believes in giving to those in need so we put together this list of our favorite charities. If you don't already have a favorite, check these out and consider supporting one or more of them. When you shop from the links on this web site we give a portion of our profit to one or more of these organizations.  Thanks for all you do! (Go shopping - click here)

Samaritan's Purse - a world-wide relief agency whose volunteers often risk their own lives to provide relief in war-torn or disaster stricken areas in the US, and all over the world. They build or re-build homes, hospitals, schools, and provide food, clothing, and medical treatment. We especially like them because they also minister to the soul as well as the body, offering the love of God to all people. Their Operation Christmas Child is a massive shoe-box gift effort which distributes items in shoe boxes to brighten a child's life around Christmas.

KIVA - is a microcredit organization that allows everyday people to lend to entrepreneurs in developing countries which allows them to improve their standard of living. At this writing no one has ever defaulted on a loan repayment.  As one lender said, he doesn't lend more than what he could afford to give.  Check it out, you can do awesome things for people on the other side of the globe and make a truly life changing difference for a family and an entire community.

Children's Defense Fund - An advocacy organization for children, especially those in distressed situations. They advocate politically, and have many initiatives and programs for poor and abused children, and those caught up in the juvenile justice system, or foster care system.

The Huega Center - Hundreds of thousands of people suffer from the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis. Founded by ex-Olympic race skier, Jimmie Huega, who was diagnosed with MS, the Huega Center is an organization which offers MS patients an intense assessment program designed to help them make the most out of their physical abilities. Their CAN DO program offers emotional and physical support for those patients and their support system to be as mobile and active, and positive as possible.

Oprah's Angel Network - Founded and headed by Oprah Winfrey, the Angel Network offers grants to community organizations and operates projects world-wide to help people in need. They often focus on reducing poverty, promoting education and self-sufficiency, and helping people who have suffered devastation in their lives by regaining their dignity.

Warm Up America! Foundation - You can donate financially or this is an especially great organization to help if you knit or crochet. You may donate 7" x 9" knitted or crocheted squares that are stitched together to make afghans which are donated to organizations like homeless and women's shelters, day cares, and the Red Cross.. Help save newborns lives around the world by simply knitting or crocheting caps for babies, see their Caps to the Capital campaign in conjunction with Save the Children.

Breast Cancer -

There are so many breast cancer organizations it is hard to choose just one. We recommend that you check out the local organizations in your area and offer your support. One of the most popular national organizations in the fight is the Susan G. Komen foundation.

Georgia Charities

Georgia is on our mind! As residents of this lovely state, here are the local charities we especially like in the Atlanta area - our home turf:

Carrie Steele Pitts Home - first organized in 1888 by a rail station maid, Carrie Steele, who found that people were abandoning their children at the station. She began caring for them. The Carrie Steel Pitts Home is now located in southwest Atlanta and provides group homes for boys and girls who are orphaned or otherwise removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, etc.

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta - One of the nation's top children's hospitals in the nation (ranked #6 of 10 in 2005 by Child Magazine) is a not-for-profit hospital system. Their AFLAC Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Orthopedic program, were all ranked number 3 in the nation. They rely on the philanthropy of the nation and the community.

Sisters by Choice - a support, information, and education organization for all women, breast cancer survivors and their families founded by breast cancer specialist and surgeon, Dr. Rogsbert Phillips. We especially like this group because Dr. Phillips is very hands-on with the organization and donates a lot of her time to treat under served women such as those without insurance, minorities, homeless women and those in shelters. She is especially active in breast cancer prevention and awareness initiatives.
